The album "Formula: Vol.2" by the American bachatero Romeo Santos, of Dominican origin, is the Latin album of the decade for Billboard magazine, the artist's representatives announced this Monday.
"This great feat confirms the success and validity of all the hits of El rey de la Bachata," a representative of the artist told Efe.
"Formula: Vol. 2" (2014) is the second studio album by the New York singer, who gave continuity to his first solo album, "Formula: Vol. 1" (2012), which occupies the third position in the same music magazine list.
The Billboard Decade Albums chart measures singer sales between December 5, 2009 and September 28, 2019.
For his successes, Romeo Santos broke four Guinness records last month, including the tropical soloist with the most sold copies, thanks to his first three solo albums.
Santos is the soloist who led the annual Billboard Tropical Albums chart for the longest years by reaching that position five times (2012, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018).
He is also the artist who has spent the most consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart with "Indecent Proposal," which led this ranking for 125 weeks, from August 10, 2013 to December 26, 2015.
Additionally, Santos' three annual albums finished at number one on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart for the above five years.
The bachatero, former leader of the group Aventura, took that honor thanks to the sales of "Formula: Vol. 1" (2012), "Formula: Vol. 2" (2014) and "Golden" (2017).
Currently, Romeo Santos is in the Dominican Republic on a tour of free concerts, which are announced with very short notice to avoid excessive crowds.
